Artist Statement

I choose to follow the graphic design path mainly because of the Army; I joined the military back in 2004. I studied art in high school and enjoyed it. The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC) influenced me to continue the military path. I attended JROTC all throughout my high school career. JROTC was very beneficial to me not only in my academic studies but also in everyday life decisions. I told the recruiting office that I was only going to join the National Guard if they had an art program of some sort. The recruiter did his part. On the training base, I was introduced to the Adobe Software, excelled in the course and I graduated in the top five students of my class. The military has given me great knowledge of the Adobe Software and I wanted to know more. I learned more about design from Wilbur Wright College, Northeastern Illinois University, and Allied American University. These colleges have greatly enhanced my ability as a designer. The military has instilled in me the accuracy that design can accomplish. My favorite aspect of my work is that each project has its own identity and they vary in composition. I strive to create new layouts for each client and every piece is designed for that individual client. I approach problem solving with my family, friends and design resources.

My pieces are unique yet they do share commonalities. They are geometric with accuracy with using a structured grid layout.  My influences include the Army, Gothic/Alternative lifestyle, and my favorite colors black and red. I use a Wacom tablet for my illustrations and designs. When developing a new project I create a unique blend of what my client requests and my own aesthetics.  Type and images need to be balanced properly in any project. When used properly the piece will work well for its design. My goal is to create a fully functional advertisement for my clients so that they may gain and retain their consumer base. The personality and atmosphere of the client or company is important to incorporate into the overall design of the work. In order to communicate effectively with the consumers of our society, it is important to convey the message articulately. Researching the company, the clientele and their demographic target is the desired way to impact their consumer base. The majority of my work is in advertising and some illustrations. In advertising I focus on posters, flyers, logos, business cards, CD covers, web ads and website design.
